Download the counties2010.txt file from the class web site: http://davidwills.net/ifsm201/counties2010.txt Open it in Excel (the Text Import Wizard will do the importing). Save it as an Excel Workbook. Add a column "income" that is the product of population and percapincome (income per capita). Format the three monetary columns in accounting style but without any "cents". Add a column "Pop density" that is the quotient of population and area. Convert the data into a table. Choose a state from the list below (states with too few counties are not on the list) that no one else has already chosen (only one person per state). First-come first-served. Register your state choice by responding to this posting with the Subject being the name of the state (the post doesn't need anything in it) or finishing your state and posting it. In the table filter out all states but yours. i.e. Display just one state. Show the minimum, maximum, total, and average county population, area, and income of your state. Show the minimum and maximum per capita income and population density of your state's counties. Show the average population density by dividing the total population by the total area. Show the number of counties. Paste these stats into a new topic with your state's name as the subject. Sort your state's counties in decreasing order of income. Paste this after your stats in the same topic post. List of allowed states. Choose one that hasn't already been claimed or posted.
